Looks terrific in a 40. Yeah, the Sikkens is expensive, but a quart goes a long way. I about cried last year when I knocked over an open, almost full quart in my garage. $40 down the drain and a permanent stain on the garage floor!

Nipper, I might regret using the cheap stuff but the V 20 will probably get limited time on the water next summer. However I might be under estimating the allure of the V 20 as a fun day boat and leave the Rosborough tied up at the marina.

I think you will be fine with it. As is evident from the pix of your work, you prepped the wood very well which is the key. Hard to beat the look of a nicely prepped and varnished teak.

We had a few nice days last week and got to work on the boat. Cleaned up the mold and mildew in the monkey hair. Came out pretty good considering how bad it looked when we started. Just need to go over the monkey hair with Resolve carpet cleaner to remove the stains from the glue use to apply the monkey hair to the ceiling of the V berth. Installed the V berth teak and the teak strips for the sliding hatch along with the fiddle sticks on the dash. Haven't installed the V berth doors yet because of a crack in the gel coat. Seems the boat might have been a victim of theft at some point by the looks of the damage. Few photos Got the steering cable out of the boat (had to cut it at the motor). Everyone was correct..the motor will have to be removed to install the new steering unit and cable. The cable and steering unit was original with a date of Nov 1986. Looks like I'm at a point where I will have to wait for warmer weather to do the steering installation. While I have the motor off I would like to seal the transom under the aluminum trim. I removed an old transducer from the boat an didn't see any water dripping. Might have gotten lucky and have a solid transom.

Looks very nice Inaforty. Very nice indeed. My 91 V does not have teak surrounding the hatch like that--has a plastic/vinyl type material. Only teak on my 91 are the slides for the hatch and a couple small pieces on the dash.

Thanks for the compliments Nipper. I like the teak trim in the V berth. I have to remember to allocate time at the beginning or end of each season to sand and apply another coat of sealant to those exposed trim pieces. I guess the ideal thing would be to have those trim pieces that hold the sliding hatch in place made out of starboard. I would imagine that would be pretty spendy though. I'm guessing you would need a full sheet of 3/4" starboard. Does your 91 have the teak step treads on top of the gunnels?

Nope, no teak there, and door to the cabin is just a sliding door made of black plexiglass.

Inaforty - nice work and welcome to the site. I'm in love with yours and your buddies 246's. Those are badass! You have the luxurious cruiser and he has the hardcore fisher - sounds like you two have it covered nicely! That bench seat is 100% factory original. I know because I have one that I bought from someone on this site. Here's some pix. The wood rotted in mine around the screws and it need to be refurbed.

here you can buy what you need in Seaboard (same as starboard) in quater sheets I think. I bought a 3/4 sheet fr my boat as I made all covrs and stuff from it and also the hatch sliders. All the red dots are 3/4 except the dash and engin cover All this is 3/8 starboard except the one floor cover even the built in tackle box CB and I built was 3/8 starboard
