Default Re: Yamaha Oil Injection System

But I am still having problems with the oil injection system??? Last year it kept over flowing and Jef thought it was the control box. But there was a thread posted on this board that lead me to a Yamaha trouble shotting site.
I went there and they said to ck to see if the arrows were lined up on the oil tank and float cover. They were not!! I alinged them and all seem to be well.
Its not dumping oil in the air box now but it is pushing the oil float cover off the tank???

I boats said to ck the vent that it might be pluged?? So I did. And it is clear!! I blew air thur it.
put back toghter and it still does it??

Other then this the injection is working perfect!! But I am baffled??

Anyone have any other Ideas??

Later

MJ - Let me see if I understand you . . . Too much oil is being pumped into the remote reservoir (little oil tank under the cowling) causing it to overflow and somehow the sensor isn't turning off the pump.

1. Could the Cap with the oil level sersor be coming loose i.e. not seating properly around the mouth of the oil reservoir?

2. Or the sensor/float/switch is busted (part 24)?

24 6E5-85730-13-00 OIL LEVEL GAUGE ASSY 1

That would be my guess?

Well not sure what it is?? I went to I Boats and they say it sounds like a blocked vent.

I blew air thur it and it is clear.

I am thinking that you are close in saying the cover is fitting to lose? The seal just might be to worn around the cover?

I am wondering if I can get just a seal or have to buy a whole new part 24??

I have been so busy that I just said the heck with itfor now!! It does not leak oil, Just pushes the cover off and you may see a little oil, but nothing to speak of.

This is a response I got from IBoats

hello
what is happening is when the oil transfer occurs the engine tank cant vent or the float does not shut off the oil transfer. the resulting pressure in the engine tank can push the float assy out of the tank. if you remove the float assy and the filter screen and drain the oil tank you will find a rubber seal between the filter screen and the tank. the seal should be replaced or at least retrived everytine the filter assy is removed. the filter assy has a hole at the top that must line up over the flat on the float assy. if it does not the transfer may not shut off proerly.
good luck and keep posting

---------------------------------------------------------------------

My book does not mention this seal?? were does it go, I belive that it goeas on the nipple on the bottom of the filter screen?

When I put the filter screen back in I move it till it falls into a hole, is this right?? Then I put the float in making sure the arrows are alined.

I am sure I am doing something so small but it is making a big problem.

MJ - The link above is the online yamaha parts catalog. Maybe ask Iboats guy to ID which part he is talking about.

either way . . . It's a multiple choice question: :)

1. either the cap is worn out
or
2. the float is busted
or
3. the vent is plugged up causing enough pressure to "pop" it out.

Now it's just process of elimination. You might try running the engine at the dock with the cowling off and watch to see if the top "pops". ;)

You can always use Plan B and rip the oil injection right off and use premix.

All fixed!!! It was the float switch part #24

I was getting sick of the oil slick I was leaving and called for thew parts. Online it was $158 + Shipping Here it was $187 I bought here for two reasons , one I wanted it yesterday!! And two I was not sure which part it was and he only had the float and would have to order the other part. So I did the float first.

Any who ran all around Chatam today and not one drop in the water!! ;D

Thanks All for your help!!

That was the only way anybody followed you to your spots. Just follow the slick.
"Oh look, MJ was here." ;D
Good thing the "Green Police" didn't follow that slick. You could tell them, it must be the remains of that tanker that went aground. ;)

MJ - What's up with the Fluke? Are there too many people fishing for them? or are they just not there in the numbers?
