my 81 outboard drains from the corners of the cockpit to the splash well, just 3/4 hose plumbing it. I guess its self bailing in theory, but two 3/4 outlets are nowhere near enough. I plan to open up the cockpit drains to at least 1"(maybe even bigger) ID, and drain them over board rather than to the splashwell. Do the outlet drains work better on the side of the boat or the back?

dk drn deck drain,
The second outlet you see (plastic) is for my bilge pump on 1 side and on other side it's for my aerator. I have clips that screw in that block off the eng cvr, my drains are located about 1-2" fwd of the aft bhd. I can take pics of the eng cvr block off's and the deck drain ("dk drn") if anyone would like, but it will have to be tomorrow, I have to leave for work in the next 20 minutes.

Thanks garage, I'm not the sharpest.
Spare, I think the drains are on the side to allow them to be higher in relation to the waterline than if they were out the back, the transom being the lowest part of the boat. *If you run them out the back you would have to be sure to put flappers on them, otherwise water will shoot in when you back up.

That black hose is on the edge of popping off. Be careful.
