;)I am new to this site so please bear with me. 6 years ago I converted my 19' 1974 Renken IO to a bracketed motor. The dealer who did the conversion sold me a 115 Johnson with a 20" shaft. He told me that it had to have an extension added to make it a 25" shaft. That was the best move I made on that boat. The bracket is an 18" set back and I never had a problem with dunking the motor and I fish the CBBT mainly. Unfortunatly that hull developed a crack along the port side chine so I started looking for a replacement hull. I ran into a stroke of luck when a gentleman gave me a 1979 V-20. The V-20 had a 115 with a 20" shaft which is currently in the junkyard. The boat is currently at my fiberglass guy's place getting new stringers alongside of the fuel tank and then he going to rebuild the transom to accept my bracket and motor from the Renken. The transom on the Wellcraft is solid but he doesn't believe in splicing a transom so he is rebuilding the whole thing using a composit material which is going to give the boat a stronger transom. ;DI highly recomend that anyone who has a transom problem consider going to a bracket if they can afford it because the plusses (better speed, fuel economy, handling) outwiegh the negatives.
As soon as I can figure out the picture thing on this site I will post some pics. ;D

Welcome 2ndchance! Sounds like you've got a real nice project in the works. Can't wait to see it! There's been alot of talk about converting the notched transom models into a bracketed hull. It'll be neat to see how that is done.

About the pictures, there are some instructions under "how to" its near the bottom on the homepage of this site. MJ has some good instructions there and you'll be posting pics in no time. If you need help just ask! We want to see them as bad or worse than you want to post them I'm sure!

Welcome!

Blue
