Ferm got to it first Destroyer. It may have lasted a while longer but why take the chance. I have had folks try to convince me that a second or two without water will fry the impeller. I simply ain't buying it. Not a servicable impeller anyways. I did a water pump job on the 90 Johnny before going to the keys. I ran 12 gallons of fuel through the motor at idle, then a shift lever gave up, went back into it. At first the impeller blades were bent but they straightened back out over a period of about an hour.

Yup. Like I said in the previous posts, it's always a good idea to change them. And anything dry rotted, cracked, burned, torn and worn gets the heave-ho instantly. But I was basing my "looks ok" comment on the fact that it looked like the impeller was just pulled out of the housing when the pics were taken, and given that short time period there's no way that the vanes would straighten out right away. I have the same engine. I know it takes a half hour or so for them to straighten out after they have taken a set from the housing. The cracking however is a game killer. Time for a new impeller.

JCK, they do make an entire kit (Housing, plate, impeller, key, and gaskets) I think I have one at home. As soon as I get home I'll see if I can find it and post Mercury's part numbers for it off the box.

Awesome thanks, Destroyer. The impeller has been out of the cup for a day now. Fins still curled over.

Jason, sorry, the box it's in is a different box than the one it came in... and all I've been able to find on the internet is Sierra and Mallory(sp) kits.. real Mercury seems to only be available from a dealer.

Thanks Destroyer i could have got a Sierra for $20 wednesday. Turned it down and got a few other parts. New fuel line connector that mounts on the cowling, prop washer and nut, and a Clymer Shop manual for the 2.5L 200, all for $25
