Mine does that and probably most do...I've got the reverse solenoid, but when backin' up the driveway, it has a pin to lock the tongue from compressing...it won't fall out til you take it out... :D...

My Nextrail trailer is the BEST. I'll NEVER own a roller trailer again! Amazing how easy launching and loading boat is.

I've got the reverse-solenoid (the 5th wire), but I can tell ya steep backing puts a helluva LOAD on that solenoid and will shorten it's service life...I only use the pin when backin' up my driveway...other than that, it's reverse and go ;) ...

I just towed my V20 about 110 miles from NJ to PA and I did it without surge brakes! My tow vehicle is a GMC Envoy and I didn't experience any serious braking problems but I also didn't have any panic stops. I was in traffic but didn't exceed 60 MPH. Having said that, I don't recommend trailering a boat the size of a V20 without brakes.
The reason I was trailering without brakes was to get the boat and trailer home where I could work on them more frequently and easily. I really was very cautious for the first 10 miles. My trailer is an EasyLoader tandem with surge drum brakes. The rear set of brake assemblies were totally destroyed by salt water and the steel brake lines were also leaking so no brakes. I have since replaced all four brake assemblies with stainless steel nuts and bolts, installed stainless steel lines, replaced all bearings, equalizers, actuator, jack, winch, lights and cables. I know I should have replaced the brake assemblies with disc brakes but I had so many repairs to do I couldn't afford them. I think I will feel a little more secure on the return trip to Cape May!!!

I solved the brake problem. I got rid of them! I decided since I rarely go further than the 1 mile to the ramp that I could save the money on brakes and spend it on gas! I kept the drums/hubs and got rid of everything else. I replaced the actuator with a plain hitch and removed all the rusted lines. Enough trailer repairs, back to boating!

Now your talking!!! I hate Breaks!! Just one more thing to keep you spending money!!
I just installed a eletric winch, I have always said I would not!! But I hurt my rotor cuff and it is so painful I said I better! Its a Cheapy from Wal-Fart, $52 I used it once so far, slow but pulled up like a champ! By next season I will get rid of it as my shoulder should be fine, I hoope!

Crusher,
I live in Doylestown Township. I believe you said you live near Gross's. If you go east on Swamp Rd., across Rt. 202 about 3/4 mile you will come to Spring Valley Rd. Right on Spring Valley. About 3/4 mile you will come to New Rd. on left. (cul-de-sac) 2nd house on right. V20 in the driveway. I am doing some carb overhaul on my 150 Yammy and still have some trailer replacements to do. Also re-rigging my outriggers before she goes back to Cape May County.
