In the gallery, in the 1994 Wellcraft manual for the V21, it shows that with the 60 gallon tank and a Yamaha 150 o/b (carbed) the cruise range is 199 miles at 8.0 gph. Is that Johnson a pre-1986 model??

That is well over the 100 - 140 miles you are looking for. Unless that Johnson is pretty old, it should give you that kind of range. But, on second thought, I think I know what you are saying cause you'd like to at least have a little left over after 100 to 140 miles rather than using every last drop!

I replaced my old Evinrude 155 with a Yamaha 200 HPDI, and I love it. I am averaging 5 GPH, which is better than my old motor! ;D

That's what I wanted to hear. I have found some good deals on 2-3 year old low hour HPDIs.

We went to 120' yesterday. Beautiful day that my boat could have handled if it weren't for the range. Went in a friend of mines boat. We caught Grouper(scamps and gags), Cobia, Triggers, amberjacks and 20 or so 2-3lb black sea bass. That was just about 90 miles round trip. I want to do that in my boat.

A low hour Yama OX66 would be a good motor, I hear the 200 HPDI's are a solid motor, Merc I believe has a 175/200 hp Verado. A friend who has a Sweetwater dealership in Sanibel Fla say's the Etec by Bombardier is the heat (maintenance and fuel wise)...

Dont know, I'm partial now because I run the Yamaha HPDI and it's been a good motor.

Take a look at Ed's Marine Superstore, they usually run some decent sales on motor's new and clearance:
