self draining cockpit for 1975 CC?

I am doing outboard conversion on a 1975 CC. There are no scuppers or cockpit drains. Havent had it in the water so I dont know where the cockpit floor is relative to the waterline but I assume that if the floor was high enough wouldn't the manufacturer have used cockpit drains? If scuppers or floor drains can't be added I was going to use a grate after I cover where the motor box was (and found a salvage grate to buy now but dont want to buy it if self draining was possible). Anyone deal with that issue? thanks again for the help.
