A fishie that big would bust off your lower unit and not even feel it. I'll take puppy drum any day, you all can have the sharkies... Frank

Blue, you make a good point about clear water...I concur. 8)

Story: when I was in school getting certified (SCUBA) many years back and the dive master was explaining the dangers of Barracuda. He told us a story about one of his former classes he was taking on their final dive before certification. One of his students seen a Cuda and panicked. He pulled his dive knife out for protection. BAD idea!! The cuda seen the flash and charged him...in about 2 seconds the man was missing a hand at the wrist. They have very bad eyesight as well.

Another story: I was anchored over a reef snapper and king fishin last summer. I had the Chum Churn over the side and was chumming for kings. (its like a dinner bell BTW) We were in 100' water about 20 miles out and it was SLICK calm. You could have fished offshore in a bass boat that day. The water was really clear and I seen an "object" next to the boat. I looked again and it was a BIG Cuda! On the other side was another a little smaller. The bigger one HAD to be a solid 5'. :o They just sat next to the boat like logs for a while. I threw everything I had at em and they wouldnt touch it. I always wanted to dive that wreck, but I thought twice every since that day. ::)

I was rather be in the water with a shark than a Cuda. They are FAST, MEAN, and like most women hangin on the edge of sanity at all times. :o

sfprovyn mentioned above sharks are top of the line preditors and that's what I used to believe too...until on CBS News, video of a 1-ton Great White being TOSSED ABOUT by a 7-ton Killer Whale...the Orca flipped the shark into the air like a rag-doll and CRASHED him on contact w/ surface :o ...w/out a doubt the single most incredible thing I've ever seen...2,000 lb Great White never had a chance...

I always laugh when I hear sharks referred to as ''man-eaters''...they don't have enough brains or opportunity to target ''man'' ...they are EATERS who just happen to encounter ''man'' from time to time...especially ones who wade-fish and hang their catch from their belts ::) ...teen lost his leg at San Blas last year doin' that...

Well boys I have to apologize .After careful consideration and review, I take back everything I've ever said about me seeing what I thought were big sharks. I tied up my trusty V-20 at the Sanitary restaurant the other night for my usual flounder sandwich after a hard day trying to catch some little fishies. On the wall was a circa 1980's picture of an 17 foot Great White that was caught off of Cape Lookout shoals a ways out in the ocean. The more I looked at the picture the more I could imagine my feet sticking out of his mouth. At this point a guy at the table next to me who was an off shore tuna nut told me about a day in february when he and his son had two tunas eaten at the tuna door as they tried to winch them on board and both were easily 250 to 300lbs each. All that they got on board were part of the heads. .... At this point I decided to quit drinking everything except Jack Daniels...Frank
