I know a Land Rover isn't a Burb or anything like that, (it's better), ... but I have one huge barn door (not the split style) and I love it... open it up, it swings completely out of the way and I have unlimited access to the interior storage area. No overhead hatch limiting manuvering bulky objects and no bottom hatch making me lean far over just to load something. I'll take the barn door style over the hatch any day.

Not to mention opening the barn doors means you have to unhinge them and swing them to the sides of the truck to get wide things in. And they always seem to get in the way. I know the earlier trucks with tailgates were a pain, and the tailgates were always rotting out. the hatches don't have that problem as they allow you to walk all the way up to the back, full access without swinging the doors to the sides, and like mentioned you have teh glass taht opens to allow access for small items.

I've had burbs with both barn doors and tailgates.... I absolutely HATE the barn doors.... you might as well just take your rear view mirror off of the windshield and trash it.... sure you can mostly see behind but small cars and bikes regularly disappear in the void in the center... once I nearly backed over a buddy who was standing behind me... He was looking the other way and didn't know I was moving... another friend ran up and stopped me....

Charlie, basically whats been said, hatch and seperate window are nice, you can load int eh rain with out getting wet, the barn doors will close on you when you really don't want them to, and the blind spot is a pain in the ***, especially if you are looking in the rear view to spot vehicles with lights on the roof if you get my drift

I'll toss in another tidbit... My mom has always hated leather seating and refused to consider it in her burb... she said she never felt planted in leather seats... said it felt like she was sliding out of them...

Well she found one she just loved but it had leather so I told her I'd find her some cloth seats and she got it... within a week she decided to keep the leather because she said they weren't like other leather seats she had been it and they were actually very comfortable for her....

Might be totally irrelevant to your dislike of them but just something to consider.

My Jeep Cherokee has vinyl/fabric seats... my Land Rover has leather. Can't really say that I like one better than the other. Both are comfortable. Both vehicles have about the same amount of miles on them (110,000)...But the vinyl part of my Jeeps seat on the drivers side has started to split from the wear and tear of entering and leaving the vehicle..and the leather on my Land Rover drivers seat still looks like new... Leather wears better then vinyl. Just something to think about.

Barn doors are more prone to leaks in my experience.
