Great Pictures ;D
Keep posting more pictures as you do the repair.
My big question is, the center top of your stransom. It notched down about 4 inches. Why is that ??, I see alot of the earlier boats the same way. Is this for a 20 inch shaft motor ?? Would it be ok if you didnt notch out the center on the new transom wood ??
That 77 v-20 on E-Bay for 100.00 bucks, with trailer would be a good deal for someone who knows how to rebuild the transom.

It was a small tree I cut down a couple of months ago. I left the stump kinda high so I would have some options as to removing it. Unfortunatly I ran out of time that day and have been focusing my efforts on the boat. As a result the D@#$ thing is trying to come back. Sorry to any plant lovers, but this thing has been a minor pain since I bought the house two years ago....

Lesterus, I thought I was the only one that noticed that plant!

Jeff, great job, thanks a ton for the pics. Gives me a good idea what my '72 looks like under the floor.

By the way:

Too funny :)

He'd better either start smoking or selling with all that work ahead of him!

Just kidding Jeff, I know you can handle it and once your done you'll know what's under there for sure ;) I respect the "do-it-yourselfer" tremendously. ;)

Willy, the total of pics is kinda big. I just looked and they are a little less than 300K. With 5 of them posted the total download for the pics are between 1.4 and 1.5 MB. :o So if you have a dial-up connection it would take a while for them to load. Sorry about that guys, I should've looked before I posted :-[ The camera was set on the lowest setting and I only bumped it up a little for a little more detail (I thought). I'll re-adjust it before I take more pics for posting purposes.

Hammer: Yes, the notch in the center lowers the mounting position of the motor for a 20" shaft. If I wasn't planning on enclosing the transom (and going with a bracket) then I would not only fill in the notch, but also close in the transom some so the opening in the back wouldn't be so wide. Who knows, I still have time to change my mind! ::) As for the 100 dollar boat on e-bay... They can kiss my transom... :-*This is a once-in-a-lifetime pain-in-the-a@# for me! ;D If there ever is a next time, I'll either pay someone or junk the boat! :P Shouldn't be an issue with this one though, Coosa doesn't rot (so they say). 8)

Two points Jeff

1. I have been told by some fellows who buy and sell used boats as a past time/hobby/buisness that what guys would do to sell a boat that had a soft floor was to shoot some expanding foam into the cavities and let it set up.
Also I have been told that sometimes when a manufacturer put the foam into the fuel tank area to foam it in that it would also flow into other areas under the floor.
2. That stringer cut at an angle is not correct but sloppy workmanship on WellCrafts part. That should have been cut making contact at the right angle and epoxied in, then glassed in. Also if you go with a full transom, Good Idea then do as WellCraft did and add knee's that come up the transom about 14" from my memory. If that wood in that stringer is in good shape cut it back at an angle and make a scarf joint using one piece cut to be the right length to give you your knee also. Epoxy it in place and then glass it in. Guys like Skools can give you more details and have more experience than I will ever have but if I ever rip out my floor and transom to do that much work you can d@mn betcha that it will be stronger than what Wellcraft ever did there and done right.
