Default 1970's vs 1980's v 20

Is a 1978 v 20 built as good as a 1985 v20-- assuming the transoms and floors are solid on both.

Same body style, slightly different bow rail. I assume the build quality is similar, but it's like buying a used car--it's not the year , but the mileage and routine maintaince that counts. An '85 is still 22-23 years old so I wouldnt keep the year from swaying my purchase on two boats similar in condition. Just my two cents ;)

The bottom hulls are the same in every way, near as I can tell.

Its the top cap and liner that changed over the years. I love the rom of my 75 and the big floor boxes, but there ae also great items in the 80's also.

I agree with both Bradford and MJ, if you find a sheltered well maintained V it dosent matter about the year. I think they were all built good. Mines a 77 like MJs with a smaller cuddy but has lots of deck area. I think the 78s changed to a larger cabin and taller fore deck.

The older 70's v-20's like mine are not self bailing and no floataion, that is a pretty big issue for some folks.

Please state your model V20 when saying features (or lack of) for that model that year.

My '72 is 100% excellent self bailing deck, and is loaded with a bunch of factory looking foam.
It is a Center Console though. *;)

Based on that, I might have incorrectly stated *V20 self bailing and flotation started in early '70's, when it really depends on the model.

Sometimes I feel like the only Center Console V20 owner on this board, and the strange thing is that around these parts of west Florida the V20 is mainly known and seen in Center Console versions. Cabins are rare in the V20 around here. So instinctively you think Center Console anytime the V20 is brought up. Guess it all depends on where you are at. While seeing a dozen or so different V20 Center Console's around here over the past few years, only saw my first "in person" V20 cuddy cabin last month in the keys.

Quick question.
V20 CC.
CC = Center Console or Cuddy Cabin?
I am thinking Center Console.
