| Happy 4th

Wishing you all a happy 4th of July. My birthday is the 8th, so we’re go combing the two with a family get together. Hitting the 3/4 century mark and still learning how to enjoy life more (working less helps***129299;). Fishing really stinks out here in Oregon, so I’m enjoying reading about some of you guys doing well in that department.

Thanks Phat - no need for the Roman candle, it sounds like they’re blowing up the world in the neighborhood. At least the dog isn’t drooling and shaking - my wife gave her a Xanax and she’s so stoned, she got in the garbage, which she never does Thanks for the HB and I envy the fresh fish. Never tried Okra but a neighbor is growing some in our garden this year, so I’ll be able to give it a try.

Happy birthday Scook. You're only a few years behind me. Well done!! Why is the fishing so poor out there this year? Any reasons? Happy 4th of July to everyone here. stay safe

Our fishery is primarily salmon and the runs coming up the Columbia River are just WAY diminished. It’s been bad for a few years. My understanding is that warm currents are reducing the salmon’s food supply and pretty much starving them out. The warm current observation is reinforced by guys with bigger boats than ours catching Tuna much closer to shore (30 miles out vs. 60-70) in recent years, corresponding to the lousy salmon runs. I want to get in the ocean for some bottom fishing but need time to be sure the V is in really good shape before going out. Our access to the ocean is all river-fed bays, so they all have bars that get very dangerous when the weather turns and waves start breaking on the shallow bars. If the weather deteriorates, we need to scoot back in in a hurry.

Hope everyone had a great 4th as well! I spent half of mine at the beach and half at the lake. Caught some nice flounder, trout, whiting, black drum and sheepshead at the beach, caught a nice buzz at the lake lol. Back at home now and got to get back to working the garden and canning vegetables. Scook, my daughter and her new husband just got back from honeymooning 10 days in alaska. They got some nice halibut to 75 lbs, king salmon to 23 lbs, chinook, grayling, etc. Those kids have caught more fish than I could ever imagine catching.
