My buddy just bought a boat with a early 90's 120 Johnson, replaced the water pump cause it was taking a while to pee water. But its still slow to pee?? I told him that I thought this had a thing that would not pee till the T Stat opened, but not sure? Is this the case or should he be looking at something else? After a few min of running is does pee and goes pretty good!
Thanks Guys

My 140 johnson did that. Scared the mess out of me the first time I fired it up, but I believe it is normal. Let's see what our local experts say.......

It takes almost a minute for the exhaust chest to fill with water with the engine idling. And the pee stream is fed water out the top of the exhaust chest.
