Default Evinrude overheating, weird issue

My Evinrude 130 has been overheating once per trip for the past three trips out. Strangely it does it at the exact same time. The buzzer goes off and the engine bogs at the exact same place, about 10 miles away from the dock. Each time I have dumped the fuel water separator (little bit of water in it) and let it sit for a minute. I can then start it right up and continue on my way. I can then travel non stop for 20 miles and back to the dock without issue? I'm confused...

Possibly overheating due to not enough oil getting to the engine?

Is this ame spot after an idle zone, or is it after a run at cruising speed? When was the impeller last changed? On that engine if the water pump doesn't put out enough pressure it will overheat at a slow steady cruise.

Ferm, the 10 mile run is cruising around 4k all the way. Once I cool it down I can run the rest of the day without it happening again. I even ran it wide open for a while on the way back in yesterday without a problem.

The impeller was changed last year, seems to be the same pressure exiting the engine. I will drop the foot to check it out when I get a chance, it only takes 15 minutes but it hot outside!

There was this same exact issue on some of the 3 cylinder ones just a couple of years after going to the VRO.
One correction (don't know if it was successful) was to replace the pee hole stuff from the block to exit. This included a kit of an increased size of a few fittings from the block to the outside, basically the screw in 90 to barb fitting, the hose and the outlet.
Don't ask me why this would work, only thing I can figure is an increase of water flow from the impeller.

It may be worthwhile to pull the t-stat housings off and make sure nothing is hanging up the stats so that they cannot move when the pressure builds. And there are 2 different water pump housings that will fit your lower unit, if you put the wrong one on it will run hot.

Ferm, I know the right water pump is installed, I ran it all of last season without issue. I will check the stat when I pull the lower unit.

Tsubaki, I can see where that could be an issue. I know if the piss tube is blocked it will overheat, my buddies Yamaha will run all day with it clogged though.

I pulled the lower unit and the water pump is fine. I pulled the t-stat covers and one has some damage to the rubber diaphragm.

I have a trip planned in a few hours and I cannot find anywhere open today to get the new stat. Will it hurt the engine running without the stats today?

you should be good since it is so hot outside right now. I would pull both stats and replace both when you get a chance. Ferm correct me if I am wrong, I am just going by memory.
