Default Whaddya think?

Not much detail on the EBay page, I like that it comes with the control box wiring harness and key switch. I dont know anything about prices, if you all have advice as to high low or right in the middle, let me know so I can start comparing.

I think it's had 14 offers already, so the seller probably wants very close to that $3500 he's asking for it. It's pretty looking for sure. It's been my experience that eBay prices are getting steeper in the majority of cases. Not every item, for sure there are still bargans to be had, but dealers and top sellers are not giving bargains anymore...I find the prices on Craigslist are much better. As to that engine, ask him what warentee he's offering with it. That will tell you a lot about it's condition.

That's a heck of a good idea, I emailed asking for hours history etc. if he can provide that basic in for plus a warranty it might be worth considering. I'll check out the craigslists in the area and see whats out there.

Too much money. I went to my local boat mechanic to see what he had. I paid $4200 plus my 96 225 that was only worthy of parts (said $700 credit) for an 05 200 HP that had just been rebuilt with a 1 year warranty.

$3500 seems to be about what they are going for, you may luck up and find one cheaper, but its hard to find one thats 25", especially if you want a fresh water motor. Good clean motors are going up in price because the replacement cost is so high now. Plenty of 3,0L mercs out there for sale, not many 2,5 200's

You will be able to buy a CHEEPER motor there's no doubt of that, but I agree w/Spare, this one looks pretty good all things considered...and on the warranty issue...when I sold my boat, there was no warranty implied or otherwise on the motor...I had all the confidence in the world I was passing along a good, well maintained motor, but used is used and if this is an individual I wouldn't expect much...if buying from a dealer, 30 days, max...
