about 5 mph slower than Ridges V with the big merc seriously, if I were re powering a V with an E-Tec, I'd probably run the "small Block" 200 for the weight savings |

They do...you just have to dig through and find the 2 motors on the same or similar boats to compare. http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/Tools/...d=&boatTypeId=

First--200HO is 510lbs 200 is 418lbs 100lbs to small block The 200HO is also 218 hp at the prop. The speed difference should not be more then 5 to 7 mph I would think. Question is --how fast do you want to go??? With mine loaded for tuna--means ice--alot-Fish hold full, gear, food, 30 gallon bait tank full of water, people and 70+ gallons of fuel with arch and stand up top--I can run 49+ agianst a good 15 knot head wind--Best I have seen is 53+ with the 200HO. Faster than I need to go most of the time on Saltwater. But it does cruise real easy at 35 to 40 and not even work with the heavy load.

I might get the opportunity to do some side by side comparisons with a friend that has the 200HO. They are quiet and smooth. His hull is a 21' Paramount center console. So far the V and the Paramount are surprisingly similar in top end numbers with the Paramount having 25 less ponies. Him running a Johnson 225 Fict and my running the 250 EFI. Weight is a serious consideration. I switched from a 450 lb EFI to the 505 lb DFI in the same advertised hp and displacement and lost MPH. What I gained in economy was worth the move but the added weight hurt the balance. He changed from the Fict to the E-tec and went from 225 to 200 hp. He claims the E-tec will run circles around his old motor even giving up hp. The big block E-tec is bound to have more torque but does it have enough to evercome the weight disadvantage? Based on what Kevin is telling me I think 5 to 7 mph. (If you can live with the weight) If I could trade today for a new 200 DFI or 4 stroke that only weighed 400 lbs I would get rid of the 505 lb monster in a heartbeat. Maybe the 175 Opti ? I think it is around 435lbs. Genie full load of fuel and five passengers loaded for a day on the water I can touch 53.

do you really think that ficht was actually running on all cylinders? 175 OPTI is probably the best engine all around for a V. Interesting about the paramount, I always thought they were quite a bit faster, |

The little 200hp Evinrude may be the best choice for a V - weight 418 Compare: The 175hp Mercury Opti ..................................weight 413 The 200pm Merc Opti...................................weight 497 The 175hp Yami weight 505 * My 1996 Evinrude 150 hp looper with less than 150 hours weight 375 ! So if / when I re power, the " little etec 200hp " adds only 43lbs, at least 50hp, high tech / fuel economy and probably..........5-7mph faster top speed to hit about 46mph +. Not bad..... To hit 55mph + on a V, it takes custom power, or more weight than the boat can handle. |

If you go back to the thread you started on top speed. I gained 13.7 mph adding 50 hp and a few more cubes. The little E-tec is a great choice IMO. I expect you would go over 50mph when light. Should carry weight to 45 anytime you have the opportunity. The Big E-tec, why not just go the full monty and put a 300 on it :-) I seriously love your threads. Repower at 150 hours, WHAT?
