Default no power

I have a 1979 200 hp johnson I finally took it out yesterday but the motor will cruise good at no wake speed but when you try to gun it nobody home it wil just bogg out and shut off,it will start right back up but I just cannot get it past idle speed.I dont have 3/8 hoses I only have 5/16 but even though it is the wrong size I dont think this is the problem OR IS IT?and what else can it be?

Certainly the fuel line restriction is a problem, but it may not be "the" problem..

Sounds like water in your fuel garbage in the carb bowls, or a stuck timerbase. Do you have a water sep filter? have you checked it recently? IIRC the 79's had the push to choke feature on the key i think, when you jump on it, and it starts to die, if you choke it, and it picks up, you have a fuel delivery issue. Also check the fuel pump diaphram for condition, could pump enough to sustain idle, but not enough to keep it running at speed.

Lots of things it can be but you really do need 3/8" hose.
The internal diameter of the 5/16" fittings are probably even smaller than 1/4".
Try an external tank and correct hose setup before diving into something else and make sure the vent is open.

If that don't fix the problem, I'd be compelled to remove the bowls off the carbs, clean them and all the jets and try the external setup again.
If that helps, I'd then also be curious as how clean the stationary tank is and including any filters, vents, etc. And survey the condition of the hoses and fittings.
If all that checks out fine then you got to look for a fuel pump issue.

One step at a time.

Trying to remember, seems like on those years motors if it would actually run, it wouldn't be a power pack or stator issue.
Also see if the butterflies/choke are opening fully and operating correctly. Had one motor that lost a linkage part and the butterflies would close shut when advancing the throttle.
