vic told me about catching squid at the marina last week &
i am addicted. they have been running small, about the size of the smallest ones in the pic, but today we got some larger ones. i will freeze the small ones for bait and grill or fry the larger ones

it's not the fight, it's getting the hook in them. they approach the jig very cautiously and grab it for a split second, that's when you pull the jig. for every one i caught, i lost 4 or 5. it's like catching cigar minnows on a sabiki rig. sometimes thats more fun than catching the fish.......

these are what the jigs look like, no barbs on the hooks

cy, i.ve always thought like you, better bait than food, but these taste great. i don' know if it is the size or the freshness. the ones i have had in resturants were rubbery and no real taste. these are almost as sweet as bay scallops and the texture is like clams. these are like squid veal. we're gonna eat the larger ones tonight, be interesting to see if they are as good,,

well, I tried to saute' the squid with onions, bell pepper, garlic, olive oil, & some spices. it is much better fried. they really didn't have a bad taste, just no real taste at all. it was like pasta that has been cooked way to long.

sea monkey: it its the panama city marina, florida.....
