Hey MJ, sanding it will feather the edges down so you get a nice smooth coat, any ridges left will just be magnified when you paint. I'm getting ready to redo my deck also. Sanding also gives the new surface something to bite into so it sticks very well. Hope it helps

Thanks, I am putting a textured coat of paint, and I have a diamond pattern right into the fiberglass. So smooth is not a concern!

Yours is a bit different than mine, all the texture on my deck has been worn off and I dont have a diamond texture. I filled about 50 screw holes w/ marinetex and now it looks like it has the measels

Roughly 1/32 inch.

1/4 inch = 250 mils
1/8 = 125 mils
1/16 = 62.5 mils

Durabak ounds like some good stuff. Especially for those 1000 lb marilins that Airborne Jarhead likes to haul onto the deck. Those pointy snouts won't stand a chance against that stuff! ;)

HEY MAKO JOE , i applied the durabak coating yesterday to my boat floor. some advice; dry time for the first coat was 3 hours second coat was 5 hours , 24 hours to walk. i followed the dirctions to a tee. cool stuff, went on easy and looks great , went with the sand color. 1 gallobn was perfect with a pint to spare. temp was 50 and humidity was 30%. any questions feel free to ask.
victore.
