Lake restrictions is reason for 9.9 like I said but the two main reasons for the kicker is fuel economy and slow trolling, extended low RPM's tend to carb up a big motor also.
But the main reason for that little fellow is to get me home and to get me out of a shipping lane if the big boy lies down on me. I realise I will not break any speed records doing it but there is nothing like the insurance of a second motor to get you home. In rough seas and a dead motor I won't make a lot of head way but can at least keep the boat turned into the waves which may save my arse until help arrives ;)

Also, you keep some hours off your big motor too as well as get in some skinny water (or OUT of skinny water!).

Plus, I don't know of a 150hp motor that can slow down to 1 - 1.5mph. I think mine is around 4 mph at its slowest.

How you going to mount it Cap and where, my 70lb motor and 15lb adjustable bracket on the side is just barely noticeable at rest with a slight lean and no problem under power. Your going to be more than double that so I would try to mount that much weight as close to center line as you can. Also how do your scupper drains sit with stock set up and passengers?

I just bought a new 6hp 20" shaft Johnson, 2 year warr. It's works well, is light and fits on the push down kicker bracket perfect ( easy to deploy and pull up ) It pushes the boat about 5 mph.

Captbent, it sounds like you are gonna go with a kicker regardless of whether you use the 35 or not. Go ahead and add your bracket and try it out. My first inclination is to say its too heavy, but I've never tried one.

If you try it and think its too heavy, eBay it and buy a 15hp longshaft (20").
