Happy turkey day to all, and don't let the turkey suffer alone, he needs a partner. Smoked turkey stuffed with sausage stuffing, and home made hams with my own cure.

Everything went as planned except the Gator game. Just sit down, shut up and take it... My only fear is an even worse beat down next week to Alabama. Phat, oyster dressing is my favorite.
The fishing was hot. Reds were plentiful but on the small side. Trout were tiny to small also. My mom outfished us all again. She boated the only two keepers Friday. A small black drum (puppy) and a nice slot red. Daughter beat me fishing too as I was the guide for the day. Mom had another good one that she let wrap her around a oyster cluster and break off. All around a great trip, we caught and released 30 to 40 fish. I sure wish I had video of my boat trip into the back of one of my favorite tidal creeks. On low tide it is airboats only, or a mud motor and one fool in his flats boat... Literally motor jacked up as far as it will go,(6") and trimmed a little, we scuffed the skeg but ran 150 to 200 yards between some rather tall oyster mounds over puff mud that went on forever. In fact the usual entrance to the mouth of the creek was totally closed off by a sandbar so I gave it full throttle trimmed her out and let off just before the sandbar. Over we went and then we had deep water (2') to maneuver around and find the reds. It was every cast for an hour and a half. We went through nearly all of our shrimp and Gulp baits. Only thing missing was the size.

Yeah, same boat. Loving the 4 -stroke BUT that big lower might have me drafting a bit more WOT. 24 hours and due for the oil change I keep putting it off... Not using any boat much. That is a lot of hours, you obviously live the life. Good for you brother.
With the oysters: Was it all the fresh water? Red tide? Fallout from oil spills? what? We didn't have many oysters this year either.. Blue crabs are plentiful as sand-gnats on the other hand...

combination of all of the above, lotta rain, red tide & the oil spill. not so much the oil, but oystermen got such big checks, their still livin off of them. nobody want to work.
oysters are going for $10 a dozen locally, crazy times we live in. i paid $60 for a 50lb bag that had 18 dozen in it. i had heard they were getting $95 a bag, so i was surprised to get these. our blue crabs have been really bad this year, had one week they all showed up and was good , after that, don't know where thet went. we walk them up, so kinda limited there. but bad fishin is better that no fishin |
