Harddrive got so fulla crep, had to do something...added 2nd new (blank) as Master w/old drive as Slave...I'm beginning to think I did that backwards as I've lost ability to satisfy Hammer's insatiable need to view pix...a pix-fix as it were...anyway, it's like startin' from SCRATCH ... OR < ...


Shopuld I reverse drive positions and use new as storage??...I'm beginning to think so...HELP :-/ ...

That's how I did mine. I made my new drive for storage that way my system was still intact and in the origanal place. It keeps you from having to do a drive to drive copy to get your system back in place. If you haven't reformatted or anything like that yet, switch your old hard drive back to how it was and make your new one the slave unit. Also make sure you get the master and slave settings right or else it won't always boot up(don't ask).

You did it right and wrong!

First off if you were having issues with the first hard drive and added a 2nd, this does not address the first issue.

You can and can't add the new drive first, But if you do, your op system is on the old drive and your computer isn't going to be able to read it, unless you change the boot order in the Bios, there for not doing anything different!

Now if it was I and you are having issues with Drive one, and you know for sure its not a VIRUS for sure!!

I would install new drive as a slave, copy all files that you want saved to the new drive.

Then I would reformat the old drive reinstall your op system, you will now have a nice clean computer that has been all cleaned up, and not have lost anything cause you saved it on your now D drive. And when you format you are only doing C drive.

Have you tried removing all temp files and cookies? Do you know how??

Do you run ad aware? Free download and if you have never used it, you won't believe the crap that gets downloaded and you have no idea that it was!

When was the last time you Defraged? If you have not done one in a while you might have to do it a couple of times to get it cleaned up?

There are lots of ways to clean up your hard drive and make space.

What do you have for a computer?? I hate them restore disks! They not only reset the computer back to default, but they load all the crap from the manufacture that sucks!!

You need a copy of XP and forget all the crap from the computer makers!!

Therm & MJ...THANKS a TON!!...NOBODY intentionally reformatted old disc...we did load Windows XP and LOTS of updates to new one...could not defrag old as there wasn't even enough space to...told us so everytime we tried...

if I didn't change boot order; it should be OK after I swap 'em back...which I'm fixin' to do now...wish me luck ;) ...

well now you have two op systems, you need to delete one not to confuse the computer.
Thats easy, just put new drive on as primary drive C Drive, * then delete XP from the old drive, that will free up the space you need to defrag.

I would still back up all files either by moving them from one drive to the other, or by burning them to CD's *Then Format C:, Fdisk, then move all back.

MJ...just got thru w/Dell Tech(started at 1:07)...yer pretty good...he did everything you just said above...old drive's XP corrupt, so he transfered all useable files, then DELETED entire drive, so we got all that space back anyway... thanks for your help ...
