Seacast ?

Has anyone used Seacast to repair their transom? From what I've read this is some amazing product. I got a $1600.00 estimate for repairing the transom with new plywood . With seacast it will cost around $500 and the fiberglass doesn't have to be cut out and I can do this myself. I just want some feed back from people that have used it.

I believe someone has done this repair. I think he used a chain saw to remove the old wood. I'll look for ya.

We had someone a while back use it, but they never came back to tell us how it worked out??

This has been talked about a lot here, I guiess the biggest thing about using it, is that it does not stick to wood well.
So getting all the wood out is near impossible with out cutting the transom open.

If it was I, I think I would call the company and get the hole scoop from the horses mouth, and if need to cut the transom open do it from the inside If possible.

So getting all the wood out is near impossible with out cutting the transom open.

If it was I, I think I would call the company and get the hole scoop from the horses mouth, and if need to cut the transom open do it from the inside If possible.

Meance, $1600 doesnt sound all that bad if its done right. The problem with using Seacast is that usually when the transom is wet and rotten so is the first couple of inches or even feet of the stringers. If your transom guy is going to do the transom from the inside he would be able to repair the stringers if they needed it. Then you would be good as new. The other problem with the seacast is digging the old wood out of the transom, unless its absolutely mush which sounds like yours isnt that bad its difficult to get the good wood out. I was going to use the seacast on my first V-20 but after a couple of hours with a chainsaw, chisels and pry bars I gave in. Boat never did get finished, it went to the dump.

I know for most guys, myself being one of them it is a unknown and I would not buy a boat with it because of that fact alone.
I have on the other hand seen boats who had their transoms and stringers redone by a pro and often they are better than the factory set up that came new on the boat.
