True,G. So true.

I have way too many rods and reels, most were given to me by people who were getting out of fishing, few were bought at second hand stores, and stuff like that. The oldest one i bought is a diawa 400H level wind. Clone of the penn 4/0. Got it in 76 from a guy i worked with.

Something to do till spring

My 1st 4 reels were Diawa 50H's. Still have them. They still work and aside from a very slight pitting on the chrome reel seat they look like new. Funny, I look on eBay for stuff a lot. They sell for more used now than what I paid for them 20 years ago. You can't beat quality. Phat, you sound like me. My wife counted all my rods last year and told me I have just over 50 (Salt and fresh) Most I aquired the same way you did. Garage sales, friends giving them to me, second hand stores, etc. When I die someone's going to inherit a gold mine. :)

I never brought it up again.

Counting down till spring. St Patricks day is our unofficial kickoff of spring fishing.

Phat, again when I was a delinquent, St. Patrick's Day was always the unofficial start for our Winter Flounder season. My father would start checking the weather and making reservations at Silly Lilly's in Moriches and I would call Oscar's in the Hampton's. I have a trivia question, how can you tell the difference between a flounder (winter) and a Fluke (summer)?

No clue,G

We have Gulf flounder that range between 2 to 4 lbs. 5 to 6 pounders are called door mats. Florida's east coast flounder gets much bigger. I know u guys get them a lot bigger than we do,

The only fluke i have is my multimeter

Phat, our Fluke (summer) doormats are considered 10 lbs and bigger. The answer will come tomorrow, want to see if any one else responds.

Flounder have no teeth, Fluke do. Flounder lay on their left side, Fluke lay on their right side. Oh, and Fluke grow much bigger than flounder

interesting tid bit.... both fluke and flounder start life with their eyes like normal fish, but as they grow their eyes migrate to whatever side they don't lay on.

So old? Oh 2/1 not on 6/20/24. Hottttt. Just a quick story about old reels
I bought a diawa spinning reel 250 bronze for $13.00 at two guys dept store back in the 70s
I caught so many bluefish with that reel . The bail spring broke ,I took it to my friend who owned a tackle shop in Jersey city ( har Lee rod) and Bill told me, it’s a cheap reel are you sure you wan5 to fix it? Sure do. Ok. Cheap reel,,,,I still have it today and it works great. The new stuff today looks great and works good but 5hey will not last 40 years. The old stuff is very good. I just used it snagging. Bunker. On a very old rod.
