Looking at a V-21 in my area. Is there anything particular to watch out for on these other than the transom? Any significant difference in construction between them and the 80's V? I have decades of experience on Vs, but never paid any attention to the 21s because everyone wanted a fortune for them. Thanks!

Not because its a V21, but a 25 ish year old boat, the fuel tank.

Soft spots in the deck. Some of the V21s had a bench seat fastened to the deck in the rear. For that reason some may have spongy deck in the rear. Also, the forward rod holders on my 94 drained directly into the foam under the deck. I fixed it by running some tubing from the bottom of all 4 rod holders back to the bilge. The best way to see if that foam is soaked is take out the rod boxes, but the foam being soaked could rot out the stringers, bulkheads, deck, etc.
It seems like quite a few of the V21 ended up having soft floor issues. The above may be the reason. If the owner kept it covered and/or garaged, these were probably mitigated, otherwise if left outside or in the water then I'd be suspicious.

Another cause is lack of ventilation during storage. Especially during winter. leave all the hatches open. If possible place a small fan over one of them to keep the air circulating during storage. The object is to keep the wood under the deck dry.

I had to do all four on Bennett's V-21. Luckily he had capped each one off at bottom so any water could only come to the top and spill over the gunnel. I installed the drain bra's and routed clear vinyl tubing to the bilge area. The foam in this boat is dryer than a popcorn fart!

I'm guessing no because he would have asked about a million questions by now.
