Hey Spare - choke repair?

There's a ground wire terminal end under one of the three screws. I just assumed it did, but didn't confirm that there's a potentially hot wire to it. Took a picture that only shows the ground. Can look again when I'm at the boat.

What does it affect if there's a wire to it?

Also, if the test shows the choke not opening after adjusting and running, any reason not to pull the cover and inspect inside?

the hot wire(purple) heats up the coil, causing it to back off when it gets warm
