change it to hydraulic. Thats what it should have.

on an outboard boat, always replace the helm and cable at the same time. Dual cable will only give you the added safety for when you have a single cable failure. Also helps get any slop out of the steering(hi performance stuff). It can make the steering much stiffer. That's a big heavy boat with a big motor to have single cable steering. I would swap it out to hydraulic without hesitation. even though it cost a bunch. Jamestown Distributors generally has the best price on hydraulic steering

Thanks guys I will pass the info on to him I agree he should have hydraulic steering not single cable but as I'm sure you all know you can only give your kids advice whether they take it is another story But that's what I would do.
