“President Biden understands history when it comes to Afghanistan. He made the difficult decision to not hand over this longest of American wars to a fifth president,” Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat, said this week."
You have to wonder - is he talking about president Harris?

Know what? You're right. I made a typo. Sue me. It should have said "last" year, not "per" year. Don't forget that last year and this year we were drawing down our forces, instead of 100,000 we were down to 2400. Additionally, there were no casualty deaths, no major battles, and a host of other reasons for the decline in cost. Now, instead of worrying about the smoke and mirrors excuse about the cost, why don't you try actually answering Pipe Dreams post? .

CNN doing an excellent job covering this Afghanistan situation with reporters in country with live reports.
CNN also deeply questioning President Bidens handling of this thing from his past comments to what comes next . My own opinion based on all data so far is: 1. No matter how we withdrew Taliban was going to quickly take over. 2. Biden Admin did a lousy job of planning and initiating. A more deliberate measures step by step approach would have been much better. |

We've gone from "we planned for every contingency!" to "it would have been chaos no matter what we did" in less than 24 hours.
We have the Defense Secretary saying that "we don't have the capability to go out and collect large numbers of people," despite the fact that British paratroopers are doing JUST THAT, getting their citizens and the Afghanis who worked for them out of hiding and to the airport. And who's bright idea was it to evacuate military before civilians? All of this despite having no less than 7 months to prepare? And then there's the ABC exclusive interview with Biden, of which I've only seen a few minutes because it hasn't been released in its entirety yet (if it ever will be) and the link that ABC put up for a transcript isn't working. Here's one exchange: George Stephanopoulos: “But we’ve all seen the pictures. We’ve seen those hundreds of people packed into a C-17. We’ve seen Afghans falling —“ Joe Biden: [Angrily cuts him off] “That was four days ago, five days ago.” What? It was the day before yesterday. And what difference does it make even if it was a week ago? Our country is in the worst of hands, led by an addle minded fool. |
