Default Your Friend Macojoe aka Mj

Hello Everyone,

Last week I received a call from the nursing home that MJ is not doing well. This week I have brought all of his grandchildren to visit, notified family and some of his very close friends. Yesterday morning his health care proxy was invoked (Me) and we headed back to the nursing home. Macojoe's lucid moments are becoming fewer and fewer. Most of the day he is unresponsive with a few short bursts of energy to be able to call me and say hi.

Yesterday the grandchildren visited him for what is to be the last time (as I do not want them to see him worse) and after speaking with his nursing home, I have given the okay to begin comfort care and put a DNR in place.

I am not sure how much more time MJ will have with us but I want all of you to know that your friendships and brotherhood all these years will never be forgotten.

As I kid I'd help my father with the t shirt organizing for delivery, laugh at the jokes on the sites, be jealous of some of the get togethers he got to go to. Always begging to tag along to fishing shows, viewing pictures etc. He was suppose to teach my children how to fish but we have put it off for years due to his health. My twins birthday is in August and we will be getting them their first rods with a remembrance of Papa on them.

I cannot thank this group enough for all that they have done for MJ and my family.

Macojoe's final wishes are to be cremated with no services. And at a later day have his ashes spread by boat at his favorite fishing spot. We have not discussed a date but I believe next summer we are going to do our own send off which we will invite everyone to.

We have gathered his outfit for heaven which includes a wellcraft v20 hat, shirt and sweatshirt.

He will be all set for fishing in heaven.

Again, I cannot thank all of you enough for the love, support and friendship you have given my father all these years.

I will be in touch as soon as I can.

If anyone wishes to contact me, please message me.

Sincerely,

ScupGirl

So sorry to read this, MJ was one of the OG s on this site and took on a lot of the management of it. And apparently conned his daughter into helping. He told a lot of stories on his adventures with Kenny and commercial fluke fishing.

He was also very helpful to a internet novice from Florida. This was back in the AOL dial-up days. He would post pics that took my old computer about 15 minutes to render.

Good call on the V20 gear, he will feel right at home

Amanda, I can’t tell you how sad this makes me. Although I never met your father, I had a sh!t ton of interaction with him and I feel like we genuinely became friends. I had always planned to pay him a visit, but as you know... life sometimes gets in the way.
Your father was larger than life and watching him fade like this must be torture. Down the road a bit, you’re gonna say something to your kids and when you open your mouth, your father’s voice will come out and you’ll smile to yourself. This happens more and more often and it makes me smile.
I won’t tell you it gets easier.... it doesn’t. You will learn to cope with it as time goes on. While you still can, go and tell him everything you want to say. Don’t leave anything out.
Remember, we’re all thinking about you guys
Peace and love to your family.

I think we've all had this feeling for a long time that MJ was on his last fishing trip. I'm crying inside as I write this. I like your dad. He is a good man and I'm going to miss him when he's gone. Please keep us informed of events as they transpire, and don't be surprised if several strangers show up at that party you mentioned. We owe him so much.

Please tell MJ that all of us here are sending our love and prayers to him and to all of his family.

I'm so sorry for you and this very difficult time that you're enduring. May you all be strong and ultimately find peace.

MJ is and will always be a friend to many of us on this forum. A truly genuine, funny, smart and caring man. Like Charlie, I never met MJ either but it feels like I have met him.

The projects he and CB accomplished with MJ's 70's v20 boat were motivational to me and this whole community. He always kept things lite and humorous - although he was never one to take any crap from anybody!

He has been sorely missed around here for the last couple years. He left his personal touch on the site and the members here. You and your family have been blessed to have a dad/grandad like him.

May God shine His face upon you and give you peace.
