I have it coming, Amazon sells the tube, the flaring tool and 1 oz of 5200 it's all coming . I never used the flaring tool but on you tube the flared end goes inside the boat and you flare the outside I hope it works out good. My boat is a 78 so like you I figured if it lasted over 40 years I will just replace it with the brass sleeve but I do like your PVC pipe idea it sounds very good.

Should I heat the end of the brass tube that I'm going to flare? I watched YouTube and that's what this guy did,he said it softens the brass Heat it the put it in cold water?

The ends of the PVC are not flared? You just insert it and epoxy it in place and works good? Doesn't turn, doesn't move? Mine is in and looks good I find use 5200 so that should lock it in place I hope.brass tube made in China that I don't like.

i use epoxy on the pvc tube, I dont think 5200 will fail, I just prefer the bond of epoxy. You can sand the outward edge of the pvc tube flush with the hull. Makes a very finished looking job. Pathfinder boats use this method

Problem I see in epoxy is it does not expand and contract with heat and cold as 5200 does.
Not sure of the epoxy bond factor on the Chinese brass 5200 for anything permanent below the waterline 4200 for anything that might need replacement down the road I’m doing the brass w/ 5200 and a bronze hull /garboard plug as the boat will be in the water full time |
