I went to braid on all my rods about 2-3 years ago. Love it. Especially on my downrigger rods.

One of the best tasting fish is the Black fish!!!!
![]() Like I said, I only use braid for bottom fishing, you can feel everything. I feel I need the give - stretch of mono when I fish for Stripers, Weaks and Blues. That's just me and what the hell do I know??? ![]() BE SAFE!!!

On the topic of braid for surf fishing, I have switched exclusively to it.
I use 20# Sufix 832 with a mono or flouro leader of whatever size the conditions or target species dictates. I use a nail knot tool to attach the 2 lines using 3 turns on the mono/flouro and 5 turns on the braid.

I just switched this season, was watching a lot of YouTube videos, some love it, others not so much. With no stretch, every wave that comes through moves the weight a little, have to keep tightening the tension. I do have about 20 ft 20 lb leader
I have been using braid on trout & bottom rods for years and always tied leaders on with an Albright knot, but switched to FG knot about a year ago. Makes an almost seamless transition from braid to mono. |

Nice pompano Phat and great looking plating, thanks for sharing! I like braid overal but when it comes to making short casts with small sinkers (like I use sheepshead fishing) I like the smooth casting of mono better. Nothing like the feel/sensitivity of braid and solid hookup tho!

I have braid on all spinning rods, jigging rods and bottom fishing rods. Never look back
....except if the wind is in your face...and its dark....and its a light lure...that can be a mess... I don't fish the surf anymore but it was not good for that at night. But you can cast a 2 oz jig over the bar.
