Picked up a 1966 13 last fall planning a full restoration before the v20 came into the picture. was looking at bringing the transom to a 20" but a lot of guys say keep it original. figured it would be a waterlogged hull first thing I did was try to pick it up from the back, picked up trailer and all - sold.
last month I had a guy looking to get rid of a motor that was in his shed for years said it was a mariner and thats it. drops of an 82 15" short shaft 25 mariner -Sold! Most dont know these early mariners are actually Yamaha's. a 10 yr partnership between Yamaha and Brunswick(Mercury) in the 70's into the 80's Sanshin Industries a subsidiary of yamaha built them all marketed exclusively in Japan by Yamaha and in the US and Australia by Mercury. notice the block of this motor Yamaha Blue IMG_4566 (2).jpg IMG_4568.jpg IMG_4301.jpg IMG_4296.jpg |

Nice find, Dana. Fun little boats. Mine had the exact same motor at one time. Ran great, but i wanted power trim and tilt, so i went with the Tohatsu.
U going to keep it a tiller or put in a console? I ve seen a few with a small console and grab bar , with a tiller extension, you drive standing up. Gives u a lot more deck room, but I m too old for that all day |

Was planning full 100% restore to original, All new mahogany, Awlgrip the hull, tiller handle would be removed but since I dont really need another whaler I am considering flipping the hull and trailer, going back and forth on it and already Have a 2017 13 in our fleet
