Looks like the 140 does the job nicely. I watched your transom videos as well...great stuff. Thanks!

Default Update

Well, I ended up going with a new Yamaha F200. It took a while because, as it turned out, the transom was a gonner. At some point, someone had removed the factory brass drain tube and slapped a threaded garbard drain plate on the outside. Sadly, they left the bare wood on the inside where the brass tube had been...so it rotted from the bottom up and the usual top down. The good news is that solved my 20” transom issue. So I have the yami installed on the new 25” transom and no jack plate required.

New performance question: I think I have it propped correctly with a stainless 14.25 x 19. I’m right at 50 mph at 6000 rpm trimmed way up. It cruises great at 40 mph/4000 rpm. However, I’m getting rough shifting and prop chatter at idle, very annoying. I’m told that an SDS prop is the answer but, naturally, they don’t come in 14.25 x 19. So, I’m thinking drop down to 18” pitch, or try a 13.75 x either 19 or 21. Anyone have thoughts/recommendations? Anyone running a similar rig. Btw its an ‘84 cuddy. Thanks!

Post some pics, sounds like a great set up

I know of a few people with Yamahas that hare having rough shifting , chatter and clunking when shifting. Most say it s the hub set up on newer Yamaha props.

Congrats on the new motor

good choice on getting the transom redone. What kind of prop are you running right now? Stainless? Aluminum? If you can find a 17 P mercury mirage prop, try it and see how it compares

Thanks guys. Running a stainless prop now. I’ll see if I can lay hands on a mirage prop and give it a try. Supposedly the Yamaha brand SDS hub cures the chatter problem but we’ll see. I sense some trial and error coming on. That’ll be a good reason to get out on any nice days that come along over the winter. I’ll try and upload some photos later today when I’m near my computer. They all turn out sideways using my phone. Operator error I’m sure...
