If he hasn't already I'd try having one person push down on the cowl on that corner while simultaneously trying to unlatch. That happens on my 60 etec on my pontoon but never heard of a yamaha latch sticking.

I will give him that tip, thanks BR.
According to Google, apparently Yamaha cheaped out on the latch material around 2016, they acknowledge the problem and will fix it, but the wait at the dealers right now is 3-4 weeks and he wants to use his boat now. To add to his problem, the oil pressure gauge is not working so he has no faith in running it until he can check the oil.

A lot of people like he yammis but I'm not one of them all I hear is problems with them I would only get a merc.
