HPDI has reputation for requiring very careful maintenance - fuel and filters.
They’re considered quite good.....but some other motors are considered “ less fussy” to keep up properly . That’s about it . |

shift shaft issues were early 90's and older. 175 and 200 HPDI's are pretty solid, 250 and 300 HPDI not so much. Keep in mind, like any DFI engine, they will not tolerate bad fuel, they are on the edge of too lean all the time, and parts are freaking expensive for the fuel system
