LOL Your biggest problem is that you live in NY. You're like me. They suck up all our money in the form of taxes. Get out of there and you'll have that money you're wishing for. I can't wait till my wife retires so we can bail from NJ for the same reason.

Check out glarson s in the for sale section. Got the whole package for what your looking at for just a motor.

I think that Johnson is a rebadged Suzuki, won t be the fastest one, but great fuel mileage.

I'm a Mercury two stroke guy and love it, I would not want a 4 stroke I would always look for a two stroke if there are any around. That's my personal opinion .

Both are good motors - and neither would be a “ wrong choice.”

So next ....are you reasonably close to Merc or Evinrude service /
dealer that has good reputation ?

I have an 05’ Etec.....first year edition and it’s been rock solid - no specific
weak points at all. Still on my V21 runs great.

If you could go either way ....I’d check them both out, run test , compression check etc
and pick the one you like more ....the lower hrs on Merc good - if it’s been properly maintained.
Best of success

For old skool 2 strokes, yes, but dfi engines, HE!! NO! All the dfi's are nice for weight to hp ratio, but suck to repair out of warranty. If I had to choose between a direct fuel injected 2 stroke or a 4 stroke, I'll take the 4 stroke hands down.

Term, carbs(3) yes , so you don't like the DFI ? You know better than me for sure .the problem is that parts are hard to get on a seasoned 150 merc. But I love mine ,she starts and goes ,what I'm saying is any motor that starts and goes is a good motor.

A wise man on this forum once said "only own a 2 stroke dfi if it's under warranty."

It was either Spare or Ferm.

Get a 4 stroke!

Humm.....4 stroke motors have more moving parts and require more service than an Etec but are somehow much better ?
Hey.....whatever floats ones boat .....
Four stroke technology continues to evolve better and better but a good motors a good motor.

I’ve had a bunch of outboards - all 2 strokes, Merc and Rude .....everyone one was fine guess just lucky .
