my Penn Senators have slowly disappeared over the years, replaced by Shimano TLDs(they get 5 stars from me for trolling and live-lining big baits). I still have a high speed 6/0 and 4/0. The 6/0 is on a planer/down rod for trolling and the 4/0 is on a shelf.(was on a kite rod in Florida for years). For jigging I would want a high speed (red body). But I just bought a Penn Squall 30 star drag. Full anti-reverse bearing, graphite body...hoping it holds up for 20 years. Replaces a very expensive Shimano Torium 30 that corroded to $hi+ and squeals like a pig. I don't think I'd invest time in the Senators anymore.

it is a red body, I've got a 6/0 handle to go on it. I figure full dissemble/cleaning, better drag washers, maybe side plates. Spool up with 50lb braid and call it good. Right now I have one 6/0, 6 4/0, 1 3/0, 1 2/0. 2 Penn lever drags, a bucket full of senator spare parts from reels that were too corroded. They should last me a while |

hell. i'm still using penn. many made in the usa. I love the little 9 level wind for most anything we get around here. I tore down an old American senator, about grapefruit size, and greased her up and put on a power handle. fells like I could tow a car with this thing. cant wait to test it out on bottom of south east florida.
