You can work on it when you re fill......see what the gauge showed, vs # of gallons it took to refill. If it's close enough, then you're fine. Worst thing would be if it's set up wrong, you're showing 1/4 tank, or such, and you're actually run out of fuel ...... I've installed a few, the adjusting part is the key.
That is for the old type floating arm. The type he is putting in is the straight arm that the float slides up and down on. No adjustments necessary or possible even if you wanted to. I installed one in my boat and it worked perfectly.
