Thanks Charlie, I am going to get the mr heater 968, but I'm also going to get an oil filled unit for upstairs. I think next summer I'm going to bite the bullet and change that piece of crap Navian unit back to a standard gas boiler and hot water heater, it will be cheap at the price not to live with the stress all winter . I should have done it last summer !!

Cool

Oh, I almost forgot. If you get an oil filled unit also buy (or use) a small fan behind it. Position it so the fan blows through the fins of the heater. Heats up the room faster and more evenly. The difference is just Radiation vs Convection. Convection wins every time. Circulate the air

As always thanks again for the advise guys . I'm pretty sure I'll be able to keep it warm if the need arises this winter. Before I turned the Den into his living room / bedroom I gutted it down to the studs and re insulated! So I do have that in my favor. As he gets older it gets harder and harder to get him to stay with us even just for a couple of days... I'm only 7 block away, he doesn't want to inconvenience us. Apparently he thinks my worrying about him being in a cold house every five minutes of the day is easier on me lmbo!! Thanks again!! I knew spare and Ferm would be of no help on this matter haha.

Talking

Speaking on behalf of Spare and Ferm I'll say a case of bourbon would help.

Update ,so last week the piece of crap nevian tankless heater went on the blink again, 600.00 repair for 1.5 hours work by that thief that knows how to fix them, the very next day I had a 145,000 btu gas boiler and a hot water heater installed at my dads . The place is toasty warm and I slept till 5am for the first time in 4 years without waking up in the middle of the night wondering if that thing went out or not. Advise your peeps guys stay away from those units. They require way to much maintenance and many companies claim they can work on them and install them, fact is I've learned that far to many of these units are not properly installed and very few have the factory training to repair them . to say nothing of the fact that the basement itself is so much warmer now just because the new boiler itself gives off heat and that in itself is helping to warm the first floor above. My daughters friend just bought a home in our neighborhood and is having nothing but trouble with her same unit, but she can't afford to replace the piece of crap so she's been paying the repair bills .

John, great to hear that your dad is finally safe and that you're getting some sleep. Winter is here and it would have been nothing but worry for the next 4-5 months. That's money well spent. Congratz.
