There's one section of that canal that when the outgoing tide is really flowing there's a 3-4 foot drop .. it's like going over a waterfall. Like running rapids.

Reminder to think safety........with a plan and equipment that's within reach to be grabbed.

Could happen to anyone, any time. I recently improved on my readiness.......anyone else please post how you do it:

Life jackets....I now keep on deck, not stored - 1 for each person.
PLB..............Clipped onto my belt, with line so I can hold it up without losing.
Whistle.........around my neck when fishing alone. Sports type, very loud.

If gets rough, life jackets on....if storm approaching, life jackets on before the storm.
Fishing alone cold conditions.....life jacket on.

Plan to upgrade to inflatable jacket, so I can wear it most all the time when fishing alone.

How and where can you store the life vest on the deck? Do you have a cuddy cabin or c.c. I keep mine in a bag in the cabin but that's going to change reel quick Lol

I have the V21 cuddy and keep the life vest clipped to the hand rail on port side using just one of the vest tie clips. Not in the way, easy to get to.
We also keep a life ring attached to Bimini pole with very light mono so if someone goes overboard, it breaks away to throw to person.

Anyone know where to get a reasonably priced life ring? I'd like to mount one but every time I think about it and check prices, I don't do it. I do have two automatic inflatable PFD's and a manual one for a spare or guest on the boat.
