When I had my 75, I moved the vents up to stop fuel from leaking, andput clam shells over the vent to stop the water tfrom going in under way!!

Check valve in a vent would be bad... It needs to relieve both pressure AND vacuum.

My vent has a full loop in it. Should it just be a hump like an upside down p trap?

Yes... A full loop will hold liquid in the bottom

It's funny my fuel vent, bilge pump, and fishboxes drain hoses all had full loops in them. I took care of the drain hoses already but when I changed the vent hose I put it back the way it was. I'll fix that tomorrow. Glad I saw this thread since I plan on taking my boat to the marina tomorrow.

Do like MJ said.
Make the new locations above the rub rail and just leave the old ones in place so you don't need to patch the holes.
