Heavy brass fitting on the end of the pickup - not an issue reaching the back and staying put on the bottom. Pretty safe to say the spring has nothing to do with my problem since the symptom is the same before and after the spring.
There's no doubt some crap in the tank. Dumped last year's h2o sep in a jar and a good bit settled in the bottom. May put a trash pump suction hose strainer on the end if I can find the right one to fit.

Hey guys, I replaced all of the fuel lines about 3 or 4 years ago and it has never happened again! I'm 99% sure the old line that runs from tank to motor was impacted by ethanol and was collapsing. The old fuel line was attached under the deck so I did not get to pull it out and check it - had to leave it in place.
