V21 Fuel Tank Removal - questions

I'd be scared sending an electrical item into your fuel tank.

Could you just disconnect your pick up and put a new one in somehow? Seems like that would be the KISS way to do it.

Make one out of a piece of fuel line, put a nipple on the end to give it some weight, hose clamp some type of screen to the nipple. If you even want a screen.

Yeah Bradford, not a problem to replace the pickup tube. I can do that but don't see much reason to replace it since this one looks fine, to me anyway.

Reminds me, there is a brass nipple on the end of the pickup for weight. Forgot about that.

was the spring in the nipple? if so, all your missing is a ball to make up a check valve.

no, the spring ran the whole length of the pickup tube. wish I had pic, would make it easier to show, sorry phat

think not really a spring but a coiled wire running the length of the pickup

when the spring was new, would it have been strong enough to keep the pickup on the bottom of the tank and all the way to the stern end? how about replacing the hose with rigid plastic fuel line. plumb it down and back.
it needs a brass screen on the end either way.
btw fuel + water can make a clear blob of material, looks like a jelly fish, not easily spotted in a tank.

Heavy brass fitting on the end of the pickup - not an issue reaching the back and staying put on the bottom. Pretty safe to say the spring has nothing to do with my problem since the symptom is the same before and after the spring.

There's no doubt some crap in the tank. Dumped last year's h2o sep in a jar and a good bit settled in the bottom.

May put a trash pump suction hose strainer on the end if I can find the right one to fit.
