Not that familiar with suzuki's, but I'd confirm fire on all cylinders also. On a hose, you might not notice one cyl dropping out, but with a load it's very obvious.
As far as the sea drive, motor parts are the easy part, the hard parts to find are the bracket parts. I think I would look for a conventional bracket and a motor to pair it with before investing too much in a seadrive. Last edited by phatdaddy; 03-10-2016 at 07:49 AM. |

Hard to say from the pic, but it looks like an 85-89 model. I believe in 90 they went to the darker paint color for the cowling and such. If it's the early 85-87 style, they were known to have some running issues if the carbs are not set dead on PERFECT, and even then they can bog coming out of the hole sometimes. 88 made them better as they did away with the throttle activated switch, and went to an actual throttle valve sensor to control the timing advance through the IC ignition. Those engines can kick even seasoned guys butts, so be prepared to be patient and learn to get it to run right.
As to your seadrive, most parts for them are just 115HP JOHNSON parts for an 83 model.

Ferm his Seadrive has a V6 crossflow on it. Previous owner said it was a 200? Engine was run without any water for 20 minutes before shutting itself off, Zero compression on multiple cylinders and 50 +/- on a couple. The Seadrive itself is in actually very good condition, I'm just very suspect of anything to do with it besides just the power head due to it getting so hot. (Seals, gaskets, bearings, bushings, etc. It got hot enough to warp the cowling) I really think a bracket and decent condition used outboard is in his future. Hate to see him throw money down the hole. More than he has to anyway.

I know very little about engines but can tell you from experience, when my motor did that, it turned out to be a fuel restriction problem. Run it off a seperate tank with a new hose and ball to rule this out.

His small boat has a brand new tank, fuel line, and primer bulb. I'm figuring the carbs have some blockage.

I've been telling him to go the bracket route, problem is I had a line on 2 of them for cheap or free months ago, but now that we need one everything is too pricey, too far away, or junk.
