Default Florida, here I come...

Headed to Pompano Beach for the weekend, luckily before the snow gets here!

Forecast is cool 60's and WIND but the sailfish bite is hot. Packed the GoPro...

Default Pompano Beach fishing 1/25

Got away from the snow storm and did some fishing in Florida.
Friday - complete washout
Saturday howling west wind gusting to 35kts so we did a 1/2 day charter out of Ft Lauderdale on a bigger boat. Got it cheap cause someone owed someone a favor...anyway, the 18 yr old mate lost a sailfish and tried to tell a bunch of 50 yr olds how to fish
got a couple tasty Cero mackeral for the effort

Sunday morning - 40 degrees and NW gusting to 20kts (Striper weather!) 8-10ft swells with a 3 ft chop on top, 25 ft centerconsole, battery problems at the ramp (1 of 3 smoking), got that resolved quick. We got soaked and toughed out 3 schoolie dolphin out in 600 feet.
Went in and dried off, ate lunch and went back out - less wind but no fish

Monday morning - AWESOME! Dozen schoolie dolphin in the box and numerous lost fish by 930am just outside Hillsboro inlet.
In by 10 am, Grilled Mahi Sammiches by noon, then to the airport....

here is the video

great video skunk. looks like a great time was had by all. some pretty nautical weather to boot.

you have set the bar high with the zoom in on the stills & action shots. also excellent choice of music, saw the outlaws a lot when i was in tampa in early 70's.

thanks for posting

Another cool vid Skunk. A lot of rod holders on that boat.

Green Grass and High Tides was on the playlist at me and wifey's wedding.

The problem this time was the selfie-stick was turning from the moving water. I didn't get the good underwater shots I should have. That was the best I could do to edit out all the empty ocean shots. I'm going to make a bouyant camera stick from an old rod butt to keep on the SkunkBoat. Also going to try an outrigger mount to get a cool vantage point.

I have one of those extension handles for my boat washing brush. It goes up to about 8ft. I put the pipe clamp mount on it and stick it in the rod holder on the Bimini.

Outrigger shot would be great.

Side note, have you had any experience with any of the GoPro knockoffs on Amazon. Tempting to get one as a "sacrificial" camera. They only $69

I want to use a rod handle as a base to keep it from wobbling in the rod holder. I found that if it doesn't lock in place you can get a constant rocking and if you try to point the camera sideways, gravity turns it back to point at the stern.

Also, I want it to be able to float a camera plus any "backpack" accessory.

I've thought of a new "cheapo" camera to get different angles at the same time, maybe someday...

I have used my old Fuji pocket camera that is waterproof and shoots 640 HD

Maybe send one down to the wrecks this coming season
