Hello I'm new to site and V-20 Hull. I just purchased what I believe to be a 1974 (74 in HID ?). IB/OB running a GM inline 6 cly engine. Helped original owner rebuild power unit and outdrive 2/3 years ago. Traded some labor for couple fishing trips here in Va. Like hull for it's ride ETC. Told owner maybe interested when he wants to sell her.He called me last month he found a great deal on a 22' Chris Craft. I now own the Wellcraft mechically she is good totally rebuild.I upgraded ign system to elect from out points. Is there anything I should be aware off ?...Thanks will be adding top then going fishing..Trans Yank

Welcome to the site. Plenty of guys here with huge amounts of knowledge on the engines and hulls of these water warriors. You asked if there was anything to be concerned about. Off the top of my head I'd say that the most prevalent issues with these boats are soft transoms, rotted stringers and corroded fuel tanks. If the boat has been maintained properly, most if not all of those issues are non issues. I won't go into detail here about how you can tell if you have a problem, there are many others here that can and will do that, plus tell you how to fix them if you do have them. Since you have an I/O, about the most important thing I'd be concerned with is the integrity of the bellows where the outdrive goes through the transom and mates with the engine. It's made of rubber, and like all things made of rubber it can and will eventually fail, allowing water to enter into your boat. (Not a good thing if you're several miles from shore). It's always a good thing to inspect it and replace it every few years. The cost is well worth the peace of mind.

I too love my boat. I can't think of another boat that can run around a choppy bay through really skinny water to get to the perfect sand bar to hang out on and have a few beers and burgers. Then the next day go out in the ocean to go fishing and handle it like a champ. And mine being a buddy with an enclosure the rain doesn't spoil the party. Just love it!!

My opinion ........the big brother to the V20/21 is the SeaCraft 23 Sceptre/ Tsunami.
Similar with classic lines, big open cockpit and roomy cuddy area. That's about the only boat I might trade my V21 for......or not. :) |

Big brother would be a 23 Seabird or 23 Dusky.

Got mine from a guy, who happily for me, was a complete non-mechanic. He thought the engine was getting unreliable and I got the boat. He'd fished it in the ocean off California for years and loved it. He replaced it with a 23' Striper W/A and told me later that the V was a much better boat in the ocean.
I love my boat!
