title issue worries me a little, that boat wold be easy to get it to run in the 70's, it would take a little more work to get in the 80's, more work and a lot of money to get in the 90's.

70's is fine with me, but like you said, anytime I see a title issue, I just move on to the next ad.
BUT, I wonder if I could get by with a bill of sale switching it to NC.

probably could, I know NC doesn't title engines and I think boats only go with registration. Call Wildlife and ask them. Gte it figured out, get a bill of sale on it and drop it off at my shop, I'll have the motor squared away in no time

NC titles boats now, but not motors...I may do a little studying on this.
Big question is, if its such a nice boat, why would the owner abandon it...maybe didnt pay a repair bill?

boats like that don't have much appeal down here, can't do much fishing out of it. They are not the most user friendly either so there's not much market for that kind of boat. Depending on which county it was registered in, there could be property tax owed on it, but due to its age they will probably write it off.

I talked to my cousin, he works for DNR(SC), as far as he knows, if its not reported stolen or has a tax lean against it, all you will need is a bill of sale.
