Toyota, never really tried one for long. Old school 20R with a 5 speed was tough little guy. Might have to venture into one. I do have an affinity toward the Land Cruisers. Posh fixins. Po boy no got no funds.

Back in the 80's I had a Isuzu P'up work truck with a 4 banger stick in it. 2L engine with no guts at all, but once it got up to speed I ran it @ 75-80 mph all day long every day on the interstates and it would just smile as it went by the gas pumps. Tolerably nice interior..nothing fancy, but plush when compared to some of the other pick-ups of the same era. Man I loved that truck. Put 175k on it before the boss decided he wanted to drive it one day and totalled it.

i'm with you D, i had an 82 mazda with a 4 cyl diesel. got 36 mpg when diesel was .75 a gallon. would not go over 55 with the ac on. drove it from here to big pine key (750 miles) for $25.00, same trip in my dodge now is $275.00
