Thats really sad. I've been going across that bridge my whole life. We rode over to Pea Island about a month ago and I noticed a pretty bad dip over the channel. A friend dives around the bridge during dead tides and said you can swim under the pilings in the channel. Hopefully it can be repaired until a new bridge can be built.

Agree, very sad. I guess that makes it a true island now. I am amazed the bridge lasted as long as it has. Amazing they could build one in that inlet to begin with as volatile as it is.

It was designed to last 30 years, so really in that spot its done really good! They are running ferrys from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe but I cant see them handling all that traffic. Its a bad situation.
